Who Carries the Mental Load?

Not who does the chores. Who remembers they need doing.

For each task, answer who usually notices it and keeps it in mind, not who physically does it. If something doesn't apply to you, think about who would handle it. Your partner can take it too, on their own device, and you can compare how it looks from each side.

About this test

The mental load is the invisible work of running a shared life: noticing, remembering, planning and worrying. It rarely shows up in a list of chores, which is why it can quietly pile up on one person. These 12 questions look at four parts of it: home, planning, people and worry, from your point of view.

This quiz reflects one person's view of how tasks are shared. It is a conversation starter, not a measurement, and it says nothing about anyone's worth or effort.

Questions people ask

Why is my result only my side of the story?

Because the mental load is partly invisible, two people often see the split differently. That difference is useful: if you both take it on your own devices and then talk, you each see what the other notices.

Why isn't there a couple comparison for this one?

Answers here are about "me" and "my partner", so the same answer from two people means opposite things. Comparing answer by answer would be misleading, so we leave the conversation to you.
